A 124-room hotel on Cherry Street in Burlington, built on a narrow infill site wrapping an existing parking garage, with two restaurants that have transformed the block's foot traffic.
“The day after we decided to call our new project, “Hotel Vermont,” we woke up feeling the weight and responsibility commensurate with that promise. Our first call was to Israel Smith to discuss how to deliver on our vision, i.e. Our Brand Pillars, which are: purposeful, personal and natural. In Short, Israel's commitment and vision helped us create a Landmark in Burlington. The awards continue to pour in all these years later, including 4th Best New Hotel in the World by Conde Naste, in 2014. We hope he shares in the pride we feel for the effort and collaboration it took to create Hotel Vermont. The hotel occupies a narrow 45-foot slot between an existing city parking garage and the Cherry Street sidewalk — a constraint that drove the development of distinctive guestroom layouts and placed the entrance canopy directly on the street. Local masonry, wood, metals, furnishings, and art are composed throughout in a modern material palette rooted in Vermont.
Since opening, the hotel and its two associated restaurants — including Hen of the Wood — have generated a substantial increase in foot traffic along Cherry Street, with guests venturing out and the community venturing in.
